Breast Reduction & Ptosis

  1. The  goal  of breast reduction is to obtain the desired size and an adequate shape  and position of the breast with the smallest possible scar. In mastopexy,  the  goal is to  obtain an  adequate position and shape   of the breast usually with  out modifying the original breast size.
  2. There are several options  and techniques for each procedure. The  indication of one or other depends in the patients medial exam, original breast size and position and patients desires and expectations.
  3. Breast Reduction and Mastopexy are usually done under general anesthesia , its usually an ambulatory procedure. The surgery  usually takes around four to five hours and after a prudent recovery time at the hospital you may go  home. Patients are seen 24h after the surgery for control.
  4. You will be taking medication during several days to control pain and to prevent infection.
  5. You are not allowed to exercise or move your arms freely for around a week  to  avoid  bleeding and hematoma (blood collection at the breast implant pocket).
  6. You will be ask to use a special brassiere during one month.
  7. You will  have periodic appointments  with your surgeon, he will personally change all dressings and will be informing you when to exercise, drive and go ahead with normal life.
  8. If you are coming from outside Colombia , remember you will  first have an  appointment to check your health is  fine, to assure you  do not  have a contraindication for surgery , to get done some presurgical tests , to define breast size , surgical date , anesthesiologist appointment , and surgical fees.
  9. Please be aware that your medical history and present health will  define if you are or not a candidate for surgery . Don’t forget to send the “FOREIGNER  INFORMATION” document. This information is very important and will allow us to get an approximate idea of your present health and possible surgical indications.
